The Second Coming Of The Nexus 4 Is Upon Us

At the threat of not being able to place my own Nexus 4 order, it is my journalistic duty to inform all you loyal readers that the phone goes back on sale today. The notification email I got today got my hopes up prematurely by saying it’ll be available at noon. After some research, I realized they meant Pacific time. Us Easterners will be able to get our hands on the device at 3pm.

If history is any indication, the phone will sell out fast. There is no way Google could have sufficiently restocked their inventory in just 2 short weeks. If you recall, the first time around, the Nexus 4 sold out in Europe after 30 minutes and in the United States after 20 minutes. At the same time, on launch day, Google kept occasionally bringing it back for short periods. So, if you miss your brief window of opportunity, keep refreshing and you may get lucky.

The same day Nexus 4 launched, the 32GB Wifi +  3G Nexus 7 went on sale and sold out in a few hours. That tablet is now back in stock. The Nexus 10, which also launched same day, is still available in the 16GB version for $399, but the 32GB version has been sold out since day one. We’ll see how today plays out, but chances are good it’ll be a crazy ride. We’ll update this post as more information comes in.

Update: It looks like the way Google is tackling the Nexus 4 shortage is by opening up orders again and promising that it "Ships Soon". The 8GB version is the most popular one, taking 4-5 weeks to ship. The 16GB version will ship in 1-2 weeks.

Update 2: The shipping delays have been increased once again. The 16GB Nexus 4 will ship in 4-5 weeks and for the 8GB you’ll have to wait a whopping 8-9 weeks. In fact, when you go to the Play Store and click on the Nexus 4, you’re automatically taken to the 16GB version instead of the 8GB one, like it used to be. Let’s hope Google sures up their supplies fast. Also, check out the halo effect the Nexus 4 sales are having on the new Chromebooks.
